Turner Imaging’s mini C-arm gets Defense Health Agency authorization

Turner Imaging Systems has secured a two-year authorization to operate (ATO) from the U.S. Defense Health Agency for Smart-C, its cordless, battery-powered 16-lb mini C-arm.

The authorization confirms that the system meets U.S. military cybersecurity requirements, allowing military medical teams to operate it on Military Health System networks and send images to existing PACS and electronic health record workflows, according to the company. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has also approved Smart-C for use with its VistA DICOM system, and the device is already in use at VA medical centers.

The security-hardened software developed for the ATO will be available to all Smart-C customers on request as Smart-C Secure. Turner said it plans to pursue the same authorization for its Enduro DR portable digital x-ray system.
