PET/CT boosts confidence in rectal cancer staging, US yields high sensitivity

Restaging rectal cancer after surgery was more accurate with PET/CT than with PET alone, according to a study presented at the 2003 European Congress of Radiology. Other studies found that ultrasound beats both MR and CT for assessing local tumor invasion, and that CT multiplanar reconstructions are better than the standard axial kind for staging.
