Charges against Dharmesh Patel, a radiologist accused of driving his Tesla off a cliff in San Mateo County, California, in January 2023 with his wife and two children inside, were dismissed July 6.
Patel, 45, had faced three counts of attempted murder. All four occupants survived the 250-foot fall. In 2024, Patel was ordered into a now completed two-year diversion program instead of going to trial after a judge found that a diagnosis of major depressive disorder contributed to his conduct. The diversion program required Patel to see a psychiatrist and a family therapist.
Patel surrendered his medical license in November, and has since been living with his parents. He has reconciled with his family, the New York Times reported July 7.
