Medical malpractice insurer The Doctors Company has published Radiology Claims: November Malpractice Risk Review, part of a monthly series analyzing malpractice risk trends in different specialties.
The review finds that clinical judgment errors, including misinterpretation of diagnostic studies, narrow diagnostic focus, and failure or delay in ordering tests, are the most common contributing factors in radiology claims.
It also includes a case summary in which failure to inform a cardiologist of a suspected lung mass on a chest x-ray delayed a patient’s lung cancer diagnosis, according to the company.
