Misread CT leads to $23M malpractice award

A man in Madawaska, Maine, has been awarded $23.1 million after a jury found medical malpractice at Northern Light A-R Gould Hospital led to permanent, life-changing injuries.

In December 2020, Robert-Michael Giordano went to the emergency room after a bad fall. A doctor ordered a CT scan, but the radiologist missed a piece of bone pressing on his spine, local news station WAGM reported on June 22. Over the next month, Giordano’s symptoms worsened and eventually he was left paralyzed from the chest down, according to the report.
