Breast MRI is in a pivotal spot as supplemental breast imaging is in the spotlight for women who may not fully benefit from conventional screening mammography.
Although MRI is a very sensitive imaging modality that yields high-quality breast images, barriers in cost and accessibility make it harder for some women to receive their recommended supplemental imaging.
Katja Pinker, MD, PhD, talks about recent advances and challenges within breast MRI in this episode. Pinker is chief of the breast imaging division at Columbia University in New York, as well as professor of radiology at Columbia's Irving Medical Center. She is also an attending radiologist at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.
Katja Pinker, MD, PhD, discusses observations made at the 2026 ISMRM meeting in Cape Town, South Africa and how breast MRI specialists can take lessons learned back to their practices.
AuntMinnie caught up with Pinker at the 2026 International Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM) meeting in Cape Town, South Africa. In this episode, she also talks about observations made at ISMRM, including MRI's use in low-resource settings.
