Medison, Volumetrics settle 3D patent dispute

Ultrasound developer Medison of Cypress, CA, has settled patent litigation with 3D ultrasound firm Volumetrics of Durham, NC.

The firms settled the dispute by signing a technology licensing agreement that enables Medison to make and sell products employing Volumetrics' patents on real-time 3D ultrasound images. Volumetrics had filed suit against Medison in U.S. District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina.

In a statement, Volumetrics said that its founders invented methods for using computers to create and display 3D images of the body in real-time. The technology is based on work performed at Duke University of Durham starting in the 1980s.
