Merge closes Amicas acquisition

Healthcare IT and advanced visualization developer Merge Healthcare of Milwaukee has closed its acquisition of PACS firm Amicas of Boston.

Merge announced on April 28 that the deal had closed, following its acquisition of 92% of Amicas shares in a tender offer priced at $6.05 per share. To finance the transaction, Merge issued $200 million in senior secured notes, and completed a private placement of preferred and common stock of $41.8 million.

The combined companies have a customer base of approximately 1,500 hospital and 2,200 outpatient sites in the U.S. alone, as well as a complementary product suite and distribution agreements in more than 35 countries, according to Merge.
