IHE's IT infrastructure starts comment period

The Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) information technology (IT) infrastructure technical committee has published four supplements to the IHE IT Infrastructure Technical Framework, rev. 1.0, for public review.

The technical framework supplements cover technical specifications for four profiles: audit trail and node authentication; cross-enterprise clinical documents sharing (XDS); patient demographics query; and personnel white pages.

The documents can be downloaded via the RSNA's IHE Web site. Comments may be submitted using the IHE forums until July 15; the IHE IT infrastructure technical committee will then address the comments and publish a trial implementation version.

The IHE XDS integration profile is scheduled for use as a foundation for an on-site technical demonstration of interoperability in support of a National Health Information Infrastructure (NHII) at the 2005 Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) conference in Dallas. Attendees at the conference will be able to create and share their own health records across vendor booths as well as in the ambulatory and acute care settings on the conference exhibit floor, according to the society.
