NEC Electronics releases new LCD module

Monitor manufacturer NEC Electronics America of Santa Clara, CA, has debuted a new LCD module for medical imaging, the company announced.

The company's new 21.3-inch (54 cm diagonal) amorphous-silicon thin-film-transistor (TFT) color liquid crystal display (LCD) module with ultraextended graphics array (UXGA) resolution will begin shipping at the end of this month through NEC's sales and marketing networks in the Americas and Europe. The device is designed for displaying medical images.

The module features luminance of 900 candelas per square meter (cd/m2), and may be adapted for medical imaging through a combination of NEC LCD Technologies' proprietary superfine TFT (UA-SFT) and a high-intensity direct backlight system. The new model also features a contrast ratio of 1,100:1 and improved brightness, or viewing angle luminance, when observing the display from an angle.
