Report projects growth in cardiac PACS

The market for cardiac PACS software will grow from $272 million in 2007 to $670 million in 2014, according to a new report by market research firm Frost & Sullivan of San Antonio.

The report states that growing integration of data from multiple imaging modalities will benefit cardiac PACS users. While most cath and echo labs in North America have adopted digital x-ray technology, digital echo, or analog-to-digital converters, the image data from these modalities are often managed independently, the report states. This results in silos of information that can disrupt workflow.

The report envisions the growth of enterprise-wide cardiac PACS networks that can manage multiple modalities on a single platform. Vendors must also pay greater attention when assisting customers with improving productivity and departmental efficiencies, by helping them support higher imaging procedure volumes while simultaneously reducing costs and turnaround times, the report states.
