Fuji adds to Synapse, scores DIN-PACS II win

DALLAS - Fujifilm Medical Systems USA is planning to add bulk document scanning and auto-filing capabilities in an upcoming release of its Synapse PACS software.

Via a partnership with information-capture provider Kofax, Fuji will incorporate an automated tool for capturing, scanning, and filing all documents, according to the Stamford, CT-based vendor. Fuji will be utilizing Kofax's Ascent Capture platform, which offers optical character recognition (OCR) technology.

In other Fuji news, the company announced at the 2005 Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) meeting that it has received a Synapse contract from the Pacific Air Command (PACAF), the first major order for Fuji under the Department of Defense's DIN-PACS II contract. The wide-area network will serve all bases in PACAF, which includes facilities in Okinawa, Japan, South Korea, Guam, and Alaska.

In addition to Synapse, Fuji will also be installing a dozen of its computed radiography readers and numerous DryPix dry laser imagers. Installation is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2005, with completion estimated for December.

Fuji also reported that it has completed live integration of Synapse with both Meditech's Enterprise Medical Record (EMR) and Patient Care Inquiry (PCI) products.
