Commercial Concepts, Smith & Nephew to develop PACS

Database software developer Commercial Concepts of Salt Lake City and Smith & Nephew's endoscopy division have signed a letter of intent to jointly develop a Web-based image management system. Under the anticipated agreement, Andover, MA-based Smith & Nephew Endoscopy will integrate its digital imaging products with Commercial Concepts' PictureBase medical software platform.

The resulting operating room package will provide patient reporting, archiving, and storage capabilities. Surgeons will be able to immediately capture images as they operate, print photo-quality copies in real time, and archive images on a database within a hospital's local area network, according to the firms.
