Kodak will emphasize new work-in-progress features for its CareStream PACS network. Among the new capabilities is a user-centric architecture designed to support individual preferences such as display protocols, menus, and tools.

These preferences would be available from any workstation at any location in or outside the institution, according to the Rochester, NY-based vendor. Kodak has also added automated installation and Internet-based software upgrades and enhancements to its native real-time 3D capabilities.

Greater interactive multiplanar reformatting (MPR) functionality has been incorporated, along with more detailed reporting from automated vessel analysis and minimum intensity projection, Kodak said.

New cardiac CT functions include calcium scoring, automated heart axis detection and rib cage removal, and coronary analysis tools and reporting. Also new is the ability to integrate 3D key images, 3D analysis reports, and the radiology report into a single electronic report for distribution to clinicians and referring physicians.

Additionally, the vendor is introducing an entry-level Windows-based package that bundles a PACS workstation with a storage server and Kodak computed radiography equipment. Kodak believes this combination will be attractive to imaging centers, clinics, or smaller hospitals. The package is scalable and can be upgraded to a more fully featured PACS.

Kodak will also highlight its CareStream Information Management Solutions services, including Enterprise Information Management, Hosted Information Management, and Regional Information Management.

In mammography image management, CareStream PACS now supports storage of original images and a single secondary capture image containing CAD markers for some digital CAD systems. In addition, it can handle automatic positioning and justification of different mammographic views, tissue inversion, and support for additional 5-megapixel monitor displays.

Kodak will also show a work-in-progress integration of Confirma's CADstream breast MRI CAD software with CareStream PACS. The vendor's CareStream Information Management Solutions service can accommodate archiving requirements specific to mammography, according to the company.
