Sony has updated Nucleus, its vendor-neutral medical imaging platform. The update introduces remote patient monitoring with recording functionalities for use in the operating room, intensive care unit (ICU), endoscopy suites, procedure rooms, and anywhere else in the hospital.

The software also guides clinical staff through the planning, recording, and sharing of video as well as still images and other patient-related data. Other upgrades include bidirectional telestration capabilities that allow multiple remote users to simultaneously annotate, draw, or highlight areas of interest in a livestream video or still image. All of that can be securely shared with authorized viewers in real-time.

Other features include the following:

  • Mosaic video wall, which presents video streams from image sources in multiple operating rooms and ICUs simultaneously on a single display
  • An iPad streaming function
  • High-quality 4K conversion
  • Customizable expanded patient distraction to help reduce patient anxiety through music tracks and video imagery
  • Patient time-out feature that has checklists to simplify time out of safety standards at the start, during, and end of an operation
  • More printing capabilities
  • Full compatibility with the latest Sony PTZ and fixed cameras including HD and 4K models
