GE, UPMC test digital pathology

GE Healthcare and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) said that their Omnyx joint venture has begun clinical research testing of a digital pathology platform.

Pittsburgh-based Omnyx has commenced research testing of the technology at UPMC; Montefiore Medical Center in New York City; Stanford University Medical Center in Stanford, CA; and University Health Network in Toronto.

The digital pathology platform features patented scanners that use one camera to scan the slide and a second to simultaneously focus, new imaging software, and an information technology backbone to digitize pathology department workflow, according to GE of Chalfont St. Giles, U.K.
