Epic has launched Care Everywhere Diagnostic Image Exchange, which now allows health systems using Epic to share diagnostic-quality images, including CTs, x-rays, MRIs.
Previously, Care Everywhere supported sharing of written radiology reports and reference-quality images only. The new feature uses open image exchange standards to transport diagnostic-quality images between health systems' image archiving systems, the firm said. Clinicians at Epic health systems can retrieve the images with a single click, according to the company.
Epic said it is also advocating for the Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement, a federally sponsored interoperability framework, to adopt open image-sharing standards so that any U.S. health system can participate. The feature is available across the Epic community as of August 2026.
