Philips adds 3D image guidance features to Zenition

Philips Healthcare has added new 3D image guidance functionality to its Zenition mobile C-arm via a strategic partnership with U.K. surgical software developer Cydar.

Cydar's EV Maps software has been integrated into the Zenition platform, enabling extended procedure planning, real-time 3D guidance capabilities, and postprocedure review of endovascular surgeries, according to the vendor.

Featuring cloud-based artificial intelligence (AI) and computer-vision technology, EV Maps facilitates creation of a patient-specific 3D map of the target vasculature that surgeons can use to plan surgery, Philips said. The software then utilizes these maps to augment intraoperative live image guidance, updating the maps in real-time to account for deformations, such as guidewires and instruments that deform the patient's blood vessels.

These capabilities yield approximately 50% lower radiation exposure, as well as less fluoroscopy time, and up to 20% faster procedure time, according to Philips. EV Maps has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k) clearance, as well as the CE Mark.
