Buyer's Guide Update: 3D becomes indispensable

Dear Buyer's Guide Update Member,

For years, the argument against 3D software was that it produced pictures that were pretty to look at, but not much good for anything useful. Most radiologists felt that they did just fine with good old 2D.

You'll find fewer and fewer radiologists making that argument anymore. The increased complexity of imaging technology, coupled with growing procedure volume and competing time commitments, has many imaging specialists desperate for tools that can help them operate more efficiently and accurately.

Advanced visualization developers are stepping into the breach. Today's 3D software application offers far more than just a cool 3D image spinning in space -- it includes measurement and quantification tools, communications links, reporting features, and much, much more.

And it's easier than ever to access the power of advanced visualization. Gone are the days of standalone workstations collecting dust in a corner of the radiology department. Today's modern 3D tools can be launched from within PACS applications, and the new generation of 3D client-server technology is giving off-the-shelf PCs the functionality once reserved for high-end workstations.

This edition of the Buyer's Guide Update newsletter covers the waterfront of advanced visualization products and services, including the following categories:

Check out any of the links above for a comprehensive list of products and services in each category, or for a sample take a look at any of the links below.

Coming up in June, our focus will be on PACS software. If you're a vendor and would like to update your Buyer's Guide listings, just send an e-mail to [email protected] to get started.
