Enterography raises standard for diagnosing inflammatory bowel disease
Enterography is the story of progress made possible from better chemistry applied to contrast media development and the recent leaps in engineering that have revolutionized CT. This unique imaging technology is directed at the small bowel, an overlapping, undulating, 22-ft-long section of the gastrointestinal tract remotely located between the stomach and large intestine.

Lower radiography dose in Iran linked to improved QC, training
Better staff training and quality control (QC) have helped 10 high-volume hospital radiology departments and medical imaging clinics in Iran cut patient radiation exposure by up to 62% for routine radiographic procedures.

Raising DR tube voltage reduces dose for lumbar studies
Ignoring manufacturer guidelines for imaging equipment is usually inadvisable, but Kuwaiti researchers have found that doing so for digital radiography (DR) lumbar studies can reduce radiation exposure, according to a poster presentation at last week's American Association of Physicists in Medicine meeting.

Gold nanoparticles add cancer-killing power to radiotherapy
With a note of appreciation to Albert Einstein, medical physicists at Boston's Brigham and Women's Hospital are learning how gold nanoparticles can serve as an effective secondary source of cancer-killing electrons generated as a byproduct of the element's exposure to radiation.

QA software creates framework for assessing CT radiation risks
Initial experience with software that calculates radiation risk based on patient age, gender, and dose suggests that radiation exposure varied by as much as 50% among facilities, according to a study presented at this week's American Association of Physicists in Medicine meeting.

Canadian campaign relies on QC for CR dose reduction
A three-year effort to optimize quality control (QC) at seven British Columbia hospitals has identified ways to spare patients from unnecessary radiation exposure during computed radiography (CR) exams.

Market report finds strength in hospital-based CT
A new user analysis of MDCT utilization and sales trends has identified a shift in the balance of market power, which now appears to favor acute care hospitals over private-practice freestanding medical imaging centers.

Zgrav suit offers more radiation protection for fluoro studies
An interventional radiologist's quest to extend his injury-ridden career has led to a new option for radiation protection: the Zgrav suit. Early clinical trials suggest it could greatly affect how much radiation physicians absorb during fluoroscopically guided procedures.

Images of a 39-year-old who underwent screening mammography. Right craniocaudal (left) and mediolateral oblique (middle) views from preoperative mammography show suspicious grouped fine pleomorphic calcifications (arrows). After biopsy showed ductal carcinoma of situ (DCIS), patient underwent breast-conserving surgery, yielding final diagnosis of ductal carcinoma in situ (intermediate grade, hormone receptor positive). (Right) Screenshot of an output of a commercial AI tool applied to preoperative mammography. AI detected right breast lesion with score of 95% on both views (concentric colored circles). Present study’s reviewing radiologist deemed AI marking to correspond with site of DCIS.

Could AI scoring help with managing DCIS?
Axial contrast-enhanced CT scan in a 28-year-old premenopausal woman shows an incidentally detected solid-appearing left ovarian lesion (solid arrow) anterior to the uterus (U), associated with trace ascites in the right adnexa and cul de sac (dashed arrows). At pathologic analysis, this was shown to be ovarian dysgerminoma. Two readers misdiagnosed this lesion, one as a leiomyoma and one as an ovarian fibroma.

How does F-18 flurpiridaz PET perform in routine clinical practice?
By Will Morton
A study provides real-world insights into the clinical implementation of F-18 flurpiridaz PET in a diverse group.
January 26, 2026
Ischemia in the circumflex territory. F-18 flurpiridaz PET showed a perfusion defect in the lateral wall during pharmacological stress, which improved in rest. Myocardial blood flow (MBF) quantification showed decreased MBFstress (1.4 mL/min/g) and myocardial flow reserve (MFR) (2.2) in the circumflex (Cx) territory, with adequate flow in the left anterior descending and right coronary artery territories, MBFstress 2.6 and 2.2 mL/min/g, and MFR 3.4 and 3.1, respectively. Coronary angiography showed a 70%-99% stenosis in the Cx artery, for which percutaneous coronary intervention was performed with good result and good clinical outcome.
