SALT LAKE CITY -- Whether adolescent female figure skaters have a lower bone density mass than non-athletes is still up for debate. Researchers from the Indiana University School of Medicine found no difference in skeletal densities between the two populations, although the skaters were thinner and more likely to have amenorrhea (Bone Mineral, February 1993, Vol.20:2, pp.125-132).
