IHE to test portable data integration profile

The RSNA and HIMSS' Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) initiative has released a portable data for imaging integration profile as one of several supplements in draft for trial implementation. The profile specifies actors and transactions that allow media including images and reports related to performed procedures to be exchanged by diagnostic imaging and treatment centers, patients, and providers, according to the IHE.

The goal is to provide for the reliable interchange of image data and diagnostic reports for import, display, or print by a receiving actor. The profile addresses identification of the media content's source and the patient (where appropriate), reconciliation of data during import, and the structure of the media contents.
