Increased sales in all four of its businesses fueled women's imaging vendor Hologic to gains in the company's third quarter of fiscal 2016 (end-June 25).
Third-quarter revenue increased 3.4% to $717.4 million, based on constant currency, compared with sales of $693.9 million in the third quarter of fiscal 2015. Net income almost tripled to $84.8 million, compared with $29.4 million in last year's third quarter.
For the nine-month period, Hologic's revenue increased 5% to $2.1 billion, compared with $2 billion in the same period of fiscal 2015. Net income more than doubled to $238.7 million, compared with $106.5 million in the first nine months of fiscal 2015.
In the company's Breast Health business segment, revenue totaled $282.5 million, an increase of 1.1%. Revenue grew 1.9% in the U.S. with the adoption of its Genius digital breast tomosynthesis systems, despite a "difficult" comparison in the prior year period. On a global basis, Breast Health revenue declined 2.9% at constant currency rates. When sales of discontinued products were excluded, however, international Breast Health revenue increased slightly, the firm said.

![A normal mammogram confirmed by three-year radiologic follow-up illustrates reader-marked regions of interest (ROIs) during (A) unaided (round 1) and (B) artificial intelligence (AI)–assisted (round 2) reading. Each colored dot represents an ROI for recall by a human reader. Readers could mark more than one ROI per case, represented by multiple dots of the same color. During AI-assisted reading, the AI system displayed three visible prompts: two with suspicion of malignancy scores of 35% (left mediolateral oblique [L MLO] and craniocaudal [L CC]) and one with a suspicion of malignancy score of 10% (right craniocaudal [R CC]), shown as polygonal overlays. Without AI, six of 10 readers (60%) marked a false-positive ROI. With AI assistance, this fell to two of 10 (20%). R MLO = right mediolateral oblique.](https://img.auntminnie.com/mindful/smg/workspaces/default/uploads/2026/07/2026-07-14-radiology-mammogram-ai-auto-bias.H0bYO8QlWs.jpg?auto=format%2Ccompress&fit=crop&h=112&q=70&w=112)
