A committee in the Utah state Senate has approved legislation that would encourage that state's radiologists to include breast density data on mammogram results sent to patients.
Sen. Karen Mayne (D-West Valley City) introduced SB 32 to Utah's Senate Health and Human Services Committee, which approved it unanimously. Original language in the bill stated that facilities performing screening or diagnostic mammography would be required to provide patients with dense breast tissue with notice of options for additional screening; the word "required" was changed to "encouraged" in committee discussion.
If passed, the bill will amend the Mammogram Quality Assurance Chapter of the Utah Health Code.
