Siemens installs first FFDM system in U.S.

Siemens Healthcare has made its first U.S. installation of Mammomat Inspiration, its full-field digital mammography (FFDM) system, at a radiology practice in New York, the company said.

Zwanger-Pesiri Radiology of Long Island has installed the unit at one of its nine locations; it plans to install a total of 13 units across its system. Inspiration features an amorphous selenium detector and provides digital screening and diagnostic mammography as well as stereotactic biopsy.

The unit was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in November of last year. More than 700 Mammomat Inspiration systems are currently installed outside the U.S., Siemens said.

A normal mammogram confirmed by three-year radiologic follow-up illustrates reader-marked regions of interest (ROIs) during (A) unaided (round 1) and (B) artificial intelligence (AI)–assisted (round 2) reading.
