CT laser mammography (CTLM) system developer Imaging Diagnostic Systems (IDSI) announced that a new study found that its CTLM system increased the accuracy of diagnosing malignant and benign breast lesions when used as an adjunct to mammography.
The paper, published in the December 2008 issue of Academic Radiology, also details the fundamentals of CTLM, which employs continuous waves of near-infrared laser technology and computer algorithms to generate 3D breast images, without exposing women to radiation or breast compression. The system is designed to detect angiogenesis, a hallmark of tumor growth.
The study was led by Dr. Alexander Poellinger of Charité Hospital in Berlin, and co-authors included Steven Ponder, Ph.D., IDSI's director of advancement development.
IDSI is currently conducting clinical trials for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration premarket approval (PMA) process.
