Aliso Viejo, CA-based BioLucent plans to highlight two new designs for its MammoPad breast cushion at the RSNA show.
One of the designs is a radiolucent, single-use foam cushion that covers the surfaces of mammography equipment for patient comfort. BioLucent's new U.S. Food and Drug Administration-cleared MammoPad for digital mammography is larger than other versions to fit the larger surfaces of these devices; its MammoPad for gamma imaging is specifically designed for use with the Dilon 6800 gamma camera and breast-specific gamma imaging (BCGI), an adjunct technology to mammography. All MammoPad versions can be recycled for nonmedical uses.
This month, BioLucent announced that MammoPad is available at more than 1,600 imaging centers across the U.S., and that 10 million women have had mammography exams with the cushion. To celebrate these milestones, the company plans to select five mammography centers around the U.S. to receive donations on the centers' behalf, either to each facility's nonprofit hospital foundation or to the American Cancer Society.
Also in its booth, BioLucent will introduce an FDA-cleared breast brachytherapy device, Savi. Savi has a multicatheter expandable applicator and is designed for use in radiation treatment after lumpectomy.
