Bedford, MA-based Hologic plans to take advantage of the excitement generated by the DMIST study by highlighting its work-in-progress breast tomosynthesis system with selenium-based full-field digital detector.
The company has conducted two years of diagnostic and screening trials for the system on the sensitivity and specificity of digital breast tomosynthesis as compared to 2D digital mammography, and will present these results at the RSNA show.
Hologic will also feature its multimodality workstation, SecurView, in its booth. SecurView displays and interprets screening or diagnostic digital mammograms and images generated by MRI, CT, PET, and ultrasound, and supports CAD programs. Hologic will also display its Selenia digital mammography system, MultiCare breast biopsy tables, and analog mammography system options.
Hologic made news earlier this year when it purchased Denver-based Fischer Imaging's mammography intellectual property assets. The deal effectively ended Fischer's participation in the mammography market and gave Hologic a wider customer base via Fischer's customer list and customer relationships. Hologic will not be showing any Fischer products at the RSNA meeting.
As for bone densitometry, the company will feature its work-in-progress Discovery DXA system, which incorporates a rotating C-arm that allows images acquired in different projections to be reconstructed to form 3D images of the femur.
