The Washington, DC-based National Breast Cancer Coalition (NBCC) is accepting applications for Project LEAD, a science training course designed to help breast cancer survivors and activists influence research and public policy processes.
Two four-day sessions will be held from August 3-7, 2005 in Minneapolis and November 3-6 in Washington, DC. Applications are due by June 3 and September 3, respectively. Topics will include clinical updates (screening and diagnostic tools), epidemiology (risk factors), genetics, and advocacy development.
Canadian applicants who are accepted into the Minneapolis Project LEAD session may obtain full funding (airfare, hotel, expenses) from the Canadian Breast Cancer Network. The Ottawa-based CBCN encourages the participation of young women with breast cancer; women with advanced, recurrent, or metastatic breast cancer; and women with breast cancer who live in rural, remote, and northern areas of Canada.
