Mammography vendor Planmed of Roselle, IL, will supply more than 100 mammography systems, many equipped with stereotactic biopsy devices, for a breast cancer screening project in China.
The project is China's first attempt to use large-volume screening for gathering data on breast cancer prevalence in the country, and will screen 1 million women over a period of four to six years, the company said. The project will be under the direction of the Chinese Ministry of Health and the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association, with participation by the American Cancer Society and the RSNA.
All the mammography units will be equipped with computed radiography digital imaging plates, and will be installed in screening centers throughout 50 cities. In addition, 30 units will be installed in buses to accommodate women living outside urban areas. Diagnostic image viewing will be conducted at the Beijing Expert Consulting Center Central Model Clinic, which will also serve as the administrative and educational center for the project, Planmed said.
