Konica Minolta will introduce its work-in-progress phase contrast mammography (PCM) system, which is based on computed radiography. PCM uses what Konica calls a phase-shift technique to generate sharp contrasts at the edge of a region of interest.
The PCM system takes an image of the breast with a CR plate, which is then scanned by a Konica Xpress reader. The image can be rescaled by Konica's DryPro 793 film printer or by a DICOM workstation. Wayne, NJ-based Konica believes the technique improves mammography reading and makes small microcalcifications visible.
