Imaging Diagnostic Systems will feature its Computed Tomography Laser Breast Imaging System (CTLM) at the RSNA show. The company describes the unit, currently being shown as a work-in-progress, as a noninvasive adjunct to mammography.

CTLM uses lasers to create 3D and cross-sectional images without breast compression. The average scan time is 12 minutes per breast. The unit detects neovascularization, potentially enabling users to differentiate between benign and malignant lesions, and therefore reduce the need for surgical biopsy.
CTLM is pending approval in the U.S., but has received State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) marketing approval in China, representing the first approved laser-based breast cancer detection system in that country, according to Plantation, FL-based IDSI.
