Varian, Proxima team up for partial breast irradiation

Varian Medical Systems and Proxima Therapeutics have formed an alliance. Under the terms of the deal, Proxima of Alpharetta, GA, will become the exclusive distributor of the Palo Alto, CA-based vendor's MammoSource HDR brachytherapy afterloader.

MammoSource was developed specifically to work with Proxima's MammoSite device, which treats breast cancer with localized high-dose-rate brachytherapy, according to the firms. The afterloader will be available to treatment centers on a fee-for-use basis.
