MRI Devices gets clearance for breast coil

MRI coil developer MRI Devices of Waukesha, WI, has received FDA clearance for its Breast Biopsy Coil (BBC). The radiofrequency array coil is targeted at breast MRI imaging and biopsy exams, and is designed to work with new eight-channel MRI scanners.

The coil includes an integrated system for breast immobilization, localization of suspicious lesions, and guidance of MRI-compatible interventional instruments such as localization wires and biopsy needles. The coil also has a larger aperture, which permits medial access to the breast for performing interventional procedures, according to the company.
