The American Society of Radiologic Technologists has launched a new software program, called VirtualMammo, that allows users to manipulate mammography images on their PCs in real time.
The application also lets users select different image parameters, such as kVp, exposure, and film-screen setting, and to see the results immediately. The software is designed to help familiarize users with the factors that affect final mammograms, according to the ASRT.
The program comes in two different CD-ROM formats: the continuing education edition is a single-user package that includes the CD, a workbook, and CME test that focuses on x-ray physics and the clinical characteristics of mammography images. This edition costs $50 for ASRT members, $69 for nonmembers.
VirtualMammo’s MQSA edition is designed for use by RTs and radiologists who wish to sharpen their breast imaging skills. This $395 version, geared toward mammography facilities, includes 10 workbooks and 10 CME tests.
VirtualMammo was developed by Mirada Solutions of Oxford, UK.
