VIENNA - Belgian display developer BarcoView has joined the Soft-Copy Reading Environment (SCREEN) program, a European R&D project designed to develop a soft-copy reading environment to replace film-based mammography.
BarcoView will provide assistance in solving the technical problems that impede soft-copy mammography reading, including image loading speed, grayscale resolution, and image dynamics, according to the company. The project hopes to develop a prototype system in which an experienced radiologist can screen 100 mammography cases in an hour.
Other SCREEN project partners include MeVis Technology and MeVis Center for Medical Diagnostic Systems and Visualization, both of Bremen, Germany; the University of Oxford in the U.K.; and Catholic University of Nijmegen in the Netherlands.
