
Computer-aided detection (CAD) software developer iCAD said that its Xoft Axxent electronic brachytherapy system has been used to treat a metastatic brain tumor in the U.S. for the first time.
The procedure marked the beginning of a clinical trial on the use of intraoperative radiation therapy by the Xoft system for neurological resection of large brain metastases, according to iCAD. The trial is being led by Dr. Shiao Yuo Woo of James Graham Brown Cancer Center at the University of Louisville.
