Hitachi of Tokyo has signed an agreement to buy the particle therapy business of Japanese industrial conglomerate Mitsubishi Electric.
Once regulatory approvals are received, the business will be merged into Hitachi in a transaction scheduled for April 2018.
Mitsubishi currently supplies its particle therapy for nine medical institutions. Hitachi has received orders for its own particle therapy systems from 13 other hospitals throughout North America and Asia, according to the companies.
