Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) in Philadelphia has installed a TomoHDA TomoTherapy system from Accuray at its facility.
TomoTherapy combines intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) with CT in a single system. TomoHDA's TomoEdge technology spares more normal tissue due to its sharper treatment field, CTCA said. The system also features a TomoHelical mode that allows patients preparing to receive a stem cell transplant to receive total body irradiation.
CTCA in Philadelphia is the first hospital in the region to offer the TomoHDA machine, the center said.
