Proton therapy developer Mevion Medical Systems has added HyperScan pencil-beam radiation delivery technology to its S250 single-room proton therapy system.
HyperScan is designed to precisely deliver a sharp beam of radiation, volumetrically scanning the tumor in seconds, according to the vendor. Its speed makes the technology less sensitive to patient and tumor motion than standard pencil-beam delivery systems, Mevion said.
Mevion will highlight HyperScan at next week's American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) annual meeting in San Francisco.
