Radiation oncology firm Elekta announced that the 500th Leksell Gamma Knife system was recently installed at Instituto de Neurologia de Curitiba (INC) in Brazil.
INC installed Leksell Gamma Knife Perfexion and began clinical treatments in October, according to Elekta.
More than 300 Gamma Knife systems are currently in use in 48 countries, with more than 700,000 patients treated worldwide, Elekta said. The first Gamma Knife system was manufactured in 1986.
