Week in review: Damar Hamlin and emergency radiology | Beast care guidance book | Minnies nominations deadline

Dear AuntMinnie Member,

Over seven months after Damar Hamlin of the National Football League's Buffalo Bills suffered an on-field cardiac event during a January game against the Cincinnati Bengals, he has not only fully recovered but is back on the field as the Bills prepare for their 2023 campaign.

That outcome wouldn't have been possible if not for the care provided by an emergency team of physicians at UC Health in Cincinnati, including radiologists. In a video interview, diagnostic radiologist Carl Flink, MD, shares the experience of being on Hamlin's care team and discusses what emergency radiologists can learn from the event.

Speaking of emergency radiology, imaging use is on the rise in emergency departments, according to another story drawing attention this week in our CT Community. And this trend is likely to continue, according to the researchers.

Also, a simple two-question technique can be useful for clinicians in assessing an individual's eligibility for low-dose CT.

Breast care guidance book

Radiologist Rachel Brem, MD, and breast surgeon Christy Teal, MD, of George Washington University have published a book that aims to make breast cancer care less mysterious for women.

Called No Longer Radical: Understanding Mastectomies and Choosing the Breast Cancer Care That's Right for You, the book discusses topics such as the nature of breast cancer and how women can determine the best treatment option after their diagnosis.

In addition, it addresses high-risk screening and the politics of breast density. Click here for an excerpt or stop by our Women's Imaging Community.
