L5 vertebral osteomyelitis:
(Case submitted by Dr. Marc Cote, D.O.)The case below illustrates the decreased sensitivity of In-111 WBC imaging for the detection of vertebral osteomyelitis. The whole body bone scan revealed increased tracer activity within L5. The In-111 WBC exam (shown below with Tc-MDP exam for comparison) demonstrated no evidence of increased tracer accumulation in L5 (blue arrow).
