Intermagnetics, Philips team up for MRI

The long-standing relationship between MRI components provider Intermagnetics General and Philips Medical Systems continues to be productive. Latham, NY-based Intermagnetics will be designing a compact superconducting magnet for Philips, which announced this week at the annual meeting of the International Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine in Denver that is developing an ultra-high-field 3-tesla MRI scanner.

In addition to work on that project, Intermagnetics is also developing new magnets for Philips that will be used in applications such as general radiology, diagnostic cardiovascular imaging, functional brain imaging, and other emerging advanced applications of MRI, according to Intermagnetics. The two firms have collaborated on development projects since the mid-1980s, and in May 1999 signed a five-year strategic partnership agreement.
