Philips to move North America HQ to Seattle

Philips Medical Systems North America has announced that it will relocate its headquarters from Shelton, CT, to Seattle in the summer of 2001. The move will enhance the vendor's North American presence, and allow it to expand beyond traditional strengths in x-ray imaging, according to president and CEO Jack Price.

Price also cited the firm’s intent to become a major provider of medical imaging information technology and related services. Seattle has become a central location for IT business and talent, Price said. In addition, Philips subsidiary ATL Ultrasound is based in nearby Bothell, WA, a location Philips plans to take advantage of. The two entities will maintain a large degree of autonomy, however, Price said.

Philips has been based in Shelton since 1972. Management will work out logistical details of the transition over the next several months, Philips said.
