Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center has filed a lawsuit against GE HealthCare, alleging the company infringed its patents for imaging technology used in several of its PET/CT scanner systems, according to Becker's Hospital Review.
The cancer center claims GE HealthCare's MotionFree technology -- which automatically corrects PET scan images for patient breathing movement by extracting motion patterns directly from scan data -- was invented by Adam Kesner, PhD, a physicist at the institution, according to a complaint filed June 1 in U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware. Memorial Sloan Kettering says it had previously notified GE HealthCare of the apparent infringement before filing suit. It is seeking damages for willful infringement and attorney fees, according to Becker's.
