Kathryn Keenan, PhD, a quantitative MRI researcher at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), is among this year’s recipients of the 77th annual Arthur S. Flemming Awards.

Keenan has developed MRI calibration objects that have been used in major clinical trials, including a testing tool that helped make breast MRI scans more reliable, according to the award organizers. She has also advanced methods for validating emerging techniques such as low-field MRI and magnetic resonance fingerprinting.

Keenan is one of seven U.S. government employees honored this year and was recognized in the applied science and engineering category. The awards recognize public servants with three to 15 years of service. They will be presented November 8 at the National Academy of Sciences Building in Washington, DC.
