The American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) has appointed Cynthia Taub, MD, as its 2026-2027 president, effective July 1. Taub is the seventh woman to lead the society in its more than 50-year history.

Taub serves as the Edward C. Reifenstein Endowed Professor and Chair of Medicine at the State University of New York Upstate Medical University, Norton College of Medicine. As ASE president, she has outlined four strategic priorities: credibility, catalyst, connectivity, and community.
An active ASE member since 2002 and fellow since 2005, Taub has held numerous leadership roles within the society including service on the Finance Committee, International Relations Committee, and Industry Relations Advisory Committee, and previously served as treasurer of both the ASE Board of Directors and ASE Foundation Board of Directors.
She received ASE's Richard Popp Excellence in Teaching Award in 2023 and chaired the writing group for the recently published guidelines for the standardization of adult echocardiography reporting.
