Izabella Barreto leads new medical physics division at Emory

Izabella Barreto, PhD.Izabella Barreto, PhD.Emory Radiology has expanded with a new division of medical physics led by Izabella Barreto, PhD, as its inaugural chief.

In her new role, Barreto will emphasize translating novel imaging technologies into consistent, patient-centered imaging practices while supporting clinical efficiency, according to Emory University School of Medicine.

The Department of Radiology and Imaging Services highlighted Barreto's expertise in diagnostic medical physics and focus on imaging technology oversight, quality assurance, protocol optimization, radiation safety, and quality improvement across academic health systems.

Prior to joining Emory, Barreto served on the radiology faculty at the University of Florida, achieving the rank of clinical associate professor. She is also recognized for contributions to global health initiatives focused on strengthening diagnostic imaging capacity in low- and middle-income countries, according to the announcement.

Barreto is board-certified in diagnostic medical physics by both the American Board of Radiology and the American Board of Science in Nuclear Medicine.
