MITA blasts CMS imaging cut

The Medical Imaging and Technology Alliance (MITA) has issued a statement criticizing the imaging cut included in the proposed 2012 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule from the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

The proposal includes a 50% payment reduction in the professional component of multiple CT, MRI, and ultrasound scans that are administered to an individual patient on the same day in the same setting. Dave Fisher, MITA executive director, said that MITA is deeply concerned that further reimbursement reductions will restrict patients' access to care and new technologies.
